Selecting the Instructor Interview Participants
In examining the issue of why graduate students opt or do not opt to complete new media compositions in fulfilling course requirements, it is important to see the issue from different perspectives. While interviewing my colleagues provides one view, I believe that probing instructor thoughts about new media project assignments could also be beneficial. Keeping in mind the limited scope of this pilot study and the time available in the semester, I limited these interviews to two professors. One taught the “Text and Technologies” course where my interest in this research question first emerged. She had the opportunity to see both projects and to participate in our final class discussion about the challenges surrounding new media composition. The second instructor taught the production-based “Rhetoric in Cyberspace” course from which I had gathered three student interviews. Although both instructor interviews were completed, the video recordings have not yet been analyzed. Despite the fact that there was not enough time this semester to complete this analysis, I intend to continue with my empirical research and will be reviewing these data in the near future.
